A Fisherman’s Tale
A Project In Collaboration with Seven Stories
In March 2021, we were commissioned by Seven Stories in Newcastle to create an animation and accompanying story, based on one of six classic narrative structures—such as “Overcoming the Monster” or “The Journey.” After a period of pre-planning, we were given one month to produce a one-minute animation.
As a child, I remember visiting Seven Stories and being captivated by its magical atmosphere. It’s a place that truly fuels creativity in young minds through books and interactive workshops, so having the opportunity to collaborate with them was especially meaningful.
Although the project unfortunately didn’t go ahead in the end, it was still an invaluable experience to work with such an inspiring organisation. This is currently a work-in-progress, and I’ll continue to update it as it develops.
I hope you enjoy following along!

The Narrative.
For this project, I set out to challenge myself by exploring new creative approaches while also strengthening my pre-production skills. My goal was to be able to communicate narratives and pitch ideas to clients with greater clarity and confidence.
The story follows the classic “Voyage and Return” narrative structure. It centres around a wise sea captain and his crew who embark on a journey, only to be caught in a terrifying storm. The captain is thrown overboard—only to discover that not everything is as it seems. Cursed by mysterious forces, he is transformed into a crab! Now, with the help of some unexpected allies, he must find a way to return to his ship and make it home.
