“Autistic teens protest stigma through powerful art exhibition at Birtley's Thought Foundation”

Autism Activists Exhibition.

This was the first work experience I’ve had for art in my career and one of the most meaningful. Alongside sail creative, we were commissioned to set up an exhibition based in the Thought Foundation in Birtley. The theme of the exhibition was to help present how children with Autism see the world through their eyes and express how people in society treat them.

I was involved from the start helping out with workshops and sessions with the children to help gain an incite into their perspectives. Through the workshops we got the children to draw different letters of the alphabet any way they wanted. I then used what they had drawn to animate a short video using interviews that we recorded in some of the sessions.

This experience was such an amazing opportunity and I can’t thank enough for the support of everyone involved, I feel even in a small way we spread an important message around the community.

The Final Edit

After recording mini interviews with the children I then animated only using drawings and artwork produced by the children. The animation was the centrepiece to the exhibition and was played through an old vintage tv :)

Hope you enjoy
